Pursuing God One Shin Splint at a Time

Next Step: Stop?!

My last post was about taking the next step, not being overwhelmed by the situation or anxiety that comes along so often, but just one obedient step.

So it’s ironic that God made it loud and clear my next step was to not take one. Dang it.

Friday night at IF:Gathering in Northwest Arkansas was everything I had hoped it would be and more. So many ladies gathered in one room passionate about serving the Lord and joining forces to help our community was incredible. I was pumped to get to know them better Saturday with eight hours together.

Until the stomach bug hit me.

Talk about bad timing! I rarely get sick! I had planned and anticipated this weekend for months and now I had to miss it.

But I had left Friday night so encouraged at how intimately involved God is in every detail of our lives, that as much as I wanted to throw a fit about my circumstances, I knew that He would provide.

And He did.

At first I thought it was an attack from Satan…possibly… Or it was God’s plan that I process all of the awesomeness of the conference on my own…possibly… but louder than all my theories and grumblings, I could hear in my spirit it did not matter the reason because God will use me wherever I end up as long as I am willing.

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.” Genesis 50:20

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

And after a very long day of being in bed watching the free Livestream on my own, God in His loving-kindness confirmed what I have been hearing from Him. Humanitarian photographer Esther Havens came onstage holding a lantern and told all of us that God is calling us to obedience in taking the next step. Whatever it may look like. Just a step in the direction of His light.

Well, good gravy.

If that wasn’t confirmation I do not know what is.

As I drifted off to sleep for my fourth nap of the day I felt such peace that I could be confident and secure that my next step for that day was to rest. Rest in His arms that He’s got this. He doesn’t need me actually, He’s the God of the universe!

But He desires for us to partner with Him and share in His work, because He is the author of joy and wants us to experience it to the fullest. He loves us so.

Thanks be to God for His love for His sons and His daughters.

“What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are. But that’s also why the world doesn’t recognize us or take us seriously, because it has no idea who he is or what he’s up to. But friends, that’s exactly who we are: children of God. And that’s only the beginning. Who knows how we’ll end up! What we know is that when Christ is openly revealed, we’ll see him—and in seeing him, become like him. All of us who look forward to his Coming stay ready, with the glistening purity of Jesus’ life as a model for our own.” 1 John 3:1 MSG

Stones from IF:NWA with ladies' "next step" from God written on them. And it looks like someone else was told to REST by God as well. "When your children ask, 'What do these stones mean?' You will let them know...Joshua 4:21-22

  1. Willingness is the message I needed today. I feel overwhelmed at the moment with all God is showing me (I have so much work to do). But he only asks me to be willing, to seek him and allow him to heal me. Thank you for delivering his message!

    • Oh sweet Shari, I totally agree with you (about myself!) There’s so much to be done, to do, etc etc…but in the end we just need to be still and know. It’s all in His hands! It’s too much for us! Love you!!
